This unit covers the conducting backhoe/loader operations in the civil construction industry. It includes: planning and preparing; conducting machine pre-operational checks; operating backhoe/ loaders; lifting, carrying and placing materials; selecting, removing and fitting attachments; relocating the backhoe/ loaders; carrying out machine operator maintenance; and cleaning up.

RIIMPO319E – Conduct backhoe/loader operations

This course will equip you with a sound overview and practical experience of how work should be carried out on a civil site.

Backhoe training includes general knowledge regarding site activities as well as operating techniques and patterns.

The RIIMPO319E – Conduct backhoe/loader operations is a nationally recognised qualification that will give you the skills to operate this machinery on a construction site or a building site.

A detailed training plan developed from our knowledge of the earthmoving industry.
Theoretical classroom based training in health and safety through videos, live demonstrations, and clear instructions delivered by our high performing, knowledgeable trainers.
Written and practical assessment including all training materials and a hi-vis vest.
Reliable practical training to meet logbook hours requirements – shortened logbook hours required for experienced operators.

You or your employer must give us access to the machine to conduct the training and the machine must in be in a working, operational and safe condition and meet with manufacturer guidelines and specifications.


Have a current white card
Have a good understanding of the English language
Have access to the machine on a live work site


Civil infrastructure

There are no formal entry requirements for this course, however, you must possess basic literacy and numeracy skills. You may be required to complete a Language, Literacy, and Numeracy (LLN) indicator prior to enrolling.
