August is Tradies National Health Month? Tradies National Health Month is an annual initiative run by the Australian Physiotherapy Association (APA), dedicated to promoting the health and wellbeing of Australia’s hardworking tradespeople. With an emphasis on raising awareness and fostering healthier habits among those in physically demanding professions, this month-long event serves as a crucial reminder of the importance of self-care and preventive health measures in the workplace.

From carpenters and electricians to builders and mine site workers, tradies form the backbone of Australia’s infrastructure and resource sectors. However, the nature of their work often involves physical strain, long hours, and exposure to various occupational hazards. These factors can take a toll on both physical and mental health if not properly managed.

According to APA’s recent survey, over 90% of tradies have experienced work-related injuries or pain in the past year. WorkSafe Victoria states that musculoskeletal injuries and mental health issues are common among tradies due to the demanding nature of their jobs, which is why initiatives such as Tradies National Health Month are necessary to promote a holistic approach to health and wellbeing within the industry.

With Australia in a housing crisis and trade shortage, making sure the health and wellbeing of Australia’s tradies is imperative.
