The course will allow you to fly without many of the weight or operating restrictions applied to recreational users. Course Delivery and Duration

This course can take three to six months to achieve the Certificate III in Aviation (Remote Pilot). The course is designed as a blend of online and in-person learning, and is conducted at any of our training centres located in Queensland. Based on demand, other training venues and locations may become available throughout the year.  

Online learning for the theory component of the course provides flexibility and convenience, allowing students to study at their own pace and from any location with an internet connection. The practical assessment, however, requires in-person learning and evaluation. This combination of online and in-person learning helps students balance their studies with work, life, and other commitments by minimizing the amount of time spent in a conventional classroom setting.

Career Pathways in a variety of industries:

• Remote Pilot: Graduates of the program can work as remote pilots, operating drones for a variety of applications, including mining safety inspections, agricultural land management, Military and law enforcement operations, civil construction project inspections, surveying, and mapping.
• Aerial Photographer: Drone technology has revolutionized aerial photography, providing unique perspectives and capturing images that were previously difficult or impossible to obtain. Graduates can work as aerial photographers, providing images for use in advertising, real estate, and other industries.
• Drone Maintenance Technician: Graduates can also work as drone maintenance technicians, responsible for repairing and maintaining drones and ensuring that they are operating safely and efficiently.

Study Pathways:

• Diploma of Aviation (Commercial Pilot License – Aeroplane): This program will prepare you to become a commercial pilot and operate aircraft for commercial purposes.
• Bachelor of Aviation: This program provides a comprehensive education in the aviation industry and covers a range of subjects including air law, human factors, aviation management, and aircraft systems. This provides students with many career opportunities in a variety of aviation-related roles, including pilot, air traffic controller, aviation safety inspector, and aviation management.
• Further studies within non-aviation industries that use drones

Units

In total, you need to complete 14 nationally recognised units of competency. This qualification is nationally recognised under the Australian Qualifications Framework (AQF) and upon completion you will be issued with a Statement of Attainment.

AVIY0053 Manage remote pilot aircraft systems energy source requirements

AVIY0031 Apply the principles of air law to remote pilot aircraft systems operations

AVIZ0005 Apply situational awareness in remote pilot aircraft systems operations.

AVIW0006    Perform infrastructure inspections using remote operated systems

AVIW0007    Perform aerial mapping and modelling using remote piloted aircraft systems

Entry Requirements

There are no specific entry requirements for this course however students will require:

• A sufficient level of language, literacy and numeracy is required for students to be able to complete the required assessments
• Basic computer skills
• Access to a computer and internet

No previous drone/RPAS flying experience is required to undertake our course.
