Civil Safety is proud to announce the acquisition of highly respected Mackay-based Registered Training Organisation (RTO) Col Joy Training, further expanding our presence in Central Queensland and reinforcing our commitment to delivering high-quality, industry-relevant training across the region.
Col Joy Training has been a trusted name in Mackay for over two decades, providing exceptional training and assessment services across civil construction, mining, and high-risk work sectors. This acquisition marks an exciting new chapter, bringing together two organisations with a shared passion for safety, skills development, and strong regional service delivery.
For existing clients, this transition represents both continuity and opportunity. All key training and administrative staff will remain in their roles, ensuring that the familiar faces clients know and trust will continue delivering the high-quality training and support they've come to rely on.
While the doors to the current Col Joy Training premises will officially close on 25 July 2025, all training and operations will seamlessly transition to Civil Safety''s newly reopened training facility at 27 Iridium Drive, Paget. This purpose-built site offers upgraded amenities and access to a wider range of training options.
Importantly, clients will now benefit from an expanded suite of nationally recognised qualifications and programs available through the broader Civil Safety network – giving both students and employers more pathways to upskill and grow.
Handing over something you've built from the ground up is never easy. For decades, I've poured my heart and soul into the company, training thousands of people in Mackay and across Central Queensland. It's been more than just a job – it's been my life's work, my passion, and my way of giving back to this incredible community. I feel incredibly proud that Col Joy training is recognised as part of the fabric of Mackay, and I'm excited that my legacy will continue to live on through Civil Safety. They share our values, our commitment to quality, and our belief in the power of education to change lives. I have every confidence that our clients will be in excellent hands. The team you know will still be here for you, and now with even more training opportunities and support behind them. This isn't the end of the journey – it's the next chapter.
Civil Safety CEO Robert Kerridge welcomed Col Joy Training to the group, noting the strong alignment of values between the two RTOs.
We're incredibly honoured to welcome Col Joy Training into the Civil Safety family. Col and his company are household names in Mackay. His legacy is one built on integrity, community, and an unwavering commitment to quality training – and we're proud to carry that legacy forward.
At Civil Safety, we believe in building futures through education, and we recognise the trust that thousands of students and employers have placed in Col Joy over the years. That trust will remain our highest priority as we continue to support the Mackay region and beyond.
This partnership brings together the best of both organisations – local knowledge, passionate trainers, and now, even greater opportunities for students to grow, upskill and succeed. We're excited for what's ahead.
