About the Standard 11 Underground Induction course
Standard 11 Underground is the mandatory induction course you must complete in order to work in underground coal and metaliferous mining in Queensland.
The course builds on your existing mining experience and provides you with the necessary knowledge and skills to safely:
- Identify hazards
- Manage risks
- Use and control hazardous substances
- Identify and escape from hazardous underground situations unaided
The course combines the latest theoretical knowledge and underground safety practices with hands-on practical training - ensuring you graduate ready for work with the skills required to operate safely underground.

Who Should Complete the Standard 11 Underground Induction course?

The Standard 11 Underground Induction course is ideal for people already working in operational roles within the mining industry. In order to enrol in this specialised elective, you must first have completed and hold a current Standard 11 qualification. The course is ideal for:

Course Delivery and Assessment
In order to provide you with the best learning outcomes possible, this course is delivered via a mix of online learning and face-to-face training. You will be assigned an experienced Trainer Assessor for support throughout your course
Step 1 - Complete theory module online
Complete at your own pace within 30 days. You will be assessed via a mix of online quiz questions.
Step 2 - Attend 1 day face-to-face training
Your trainer will give you practical tasks to complete (based off the information you've learned in your online theory module).
You will need to pass both steps in order to successfully complete the course.

Course Outcome
Upon successful completion of our Standard 11 Underground Induction course, you will be awarded a Statement of Attainment for:
- RIIERR203E - Escape from hazardous situations unaided.
This Statement of Attainment is valid for 5 years or as stipulated by your employer.
Entry Requirements
To be eligible to enrol in this specialised course, you must:
- Have already completed and hold a current qualification in the Standard 11 Surface Mining induction.
- Provide valid photo ID (driver's license, passport).
- Be at least 15 years of age.
- Internet connection and access to a desktop, laptop or tablet.
- Have a sufficient level of language, literacy, and numeracy to complete the required assessments.
- Enclosed shoes must be worn to the practical face-to-face training session.
It is a condition of enrolment in any nationally recognised training (accredited) course that you supply the training organisation with a valid unique student identifier (USI). If you don't already have a USI, you can apply for one online at www.usi.gov.au or we can apply for one for you.

How long does it take to complete the Standard 11 Underground course?
The course can be completed within 1-2 days. You have 30 days from enrolment to complete the online module component of the course (this typically take a few hours). You must then book in to complete your 1 day face-to-face practical training.
How much does the Standard 11 Underground course cost?

Is funding available for the Standard 11 Underground course?
Unfortunately, there is no funding available for the Standard 11 Underground course.
When will I get my Statement of Attainment?
On successful completion of the Standard 11 Underground course (both theory and practical components) and receipt of payment, your Statement of Attainment will be issued within 24-48 hours.
How long is the Standard 11 Underground accreditation valid for?
The Standard 11 Underground Statement of Attainment remains valid for 5 years, although some mine sites require you to refresh every 2 years. If your renewal is approaching soon, we suggest you complete the Standard 11 Underground Refresher online before your certification expires.
Are there any entry requirements for the Standard 11 Underground course?
In order to enrol in the Standard 11 Underground course, you must have already completed the Standard 11 Surface Induction course, as well as:
- Be at least 15 years of age.
- Provide valid photo ID (driver's license, passport).
