The Enter and Work in Confined Spaces Refresher course is designed for people who have previously completed confined spaces training and want to keep their skills up-to-date and retain compliance for site.
You’ll learn how to:
Identify and assess confined space hazards and risks.
Safely use confined space equipment, including gas detectors, harnesses, and retrieval systems.
Apply WHS legislation and site-specific confined space entry procedures.
Plan and carry out work safely in confined spaces using safe work methods.
Conduct pre-use checks and inspections of confined space equipment.
Respond effectively to emergencies or incidents in confined space environments.
This refresher course is delivered face-to-face over 1 full day.
You’ll gain hands-on experience in a controlled environment, building both confidence and competence while receiving direct guidance and personalised feedback from experienced trainers throughout the day.
Assessment is competency-based and ensures you can apply safe work practices with confidence. It includes:
An Interactive quiz and knowledge checks throughout the day
Scenario-based questions to demonstrate practical understanding
A final observation to confirm your competency in all three areas

Upon successful completion of this refresher course, you will be awarded a nationally-recognised Statement of Attainment for:
RIIWHS202E - Enter and Work in Confined Spaces
This certification is nationally recognised under the Australian Qualifications Framework (AQF) and can support applications for higher roles in safety and compliance.
Construction: Civil workers, concreters, plumbers, and building maintenance personnel.
Resources: Mining operators, drillers, and workers in oil, gas, and extractive industries.
Infrastructure: Utility service workers, sewer and water treatment operators, and tunnel workers.
Maintenance: Plant operators, cleaners, inspectors, and shutdown crew members.
Specialised Roles: Emergency response teams, safety observers (standby person), and confined space rescue personnel.
To enrol in this refresher course, students must:
Have successfully completed either Enter and Work in Confined Spaces (RIIWHS202D or RIIWHS202E) or the superseded Enter Confined Space (MSMPER205) units.
Be at least 15 years of age.
Have basic computer skills and access to the internet.
Have sufficient language, literacy and numeracy (LLN) skills to complete assessments.
Hold a valid Unique Student Identifier (USI) - mandatory for all nationally recognised training. If you don't already have a USI, you can apply for one online at www.usi.gov.au or we can apply for one for you.
Students must provide the following evidence:
A clear copy of your driver's licence or other photo identification.
A Statement of Attainment issued by an RTO confirming successful completion of either RIIWHS202D, RIIWHS202E or MSMPER205.
Note: Wallet cards will not be accepted unless they meet AQF requirements for an accredited Statement of Attainment.

If you are submitting a USI transcript, it must include a QR verification code.
If the student does not meet the refresher eligibility requirements and is required to complete the full course, an additional assessment fee will apply for the practical training and assessment component. This can be delivered at any of our training facilities across Australia.
