The Perform Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) Refresher Course (HLTAID009) is designed to reinforce the critical skills and knowledge required to perform cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) in line with current Australian Resuscitation Council guidelines. This course is ideal for individuals needing to maintain currency. The course focuses on practical, hands-on training to ensure participants can respond quickly, confidently, and effectively in cardiac emergencies.

The Perform Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) Refresher course is designed for individuals who have previously completed CPR training and need to maintain their skills and remain compliant with current industry requirements.
You’ll Learn How To:
Perform CPR in line with current Australian Resuscitation guidelines
Recognise and respond to cardiac emergencies quickly and effectively
Use an automated external defibrillator (AED) safely and correctly
Apply infection control procedures and follow standard precautions during resuscitation
Communicate details of an incident clearly to emergency services
Maintain composure and deliver effective care in high-pressure situations
This refresher course is delivered face-to-face over 1 full day.
You’ll gain hands-on experience in a controlled environment, building both confidence and competence while receiving direct guidance and personalised feedback from experienced trainers throughout the day.
Assessment is competency-based and ensures you can apply safe work practices with confidence. It includes:
An Interactive quiz and knowledge checks throughout the day
Scenario-based questions to demonstrate practical understanding
A final observation to confirm your competency in all three areas
Upon successful completion of this refresher course, you will be awarded a nationally-recognised Statement of Attainment for:

This certification is nationally recognised under the Australian Qualifications Framework (AQF) and can support applications for higher roles in safety and compliance.

This training reinforces your ability to respond effectively to cardiac emergencies while meeting workplace health and safety (WHS) compliance requirements.
CPR certification is a mandatory or highly valued requirement across many roles and industries, including:
Workplace First Aid Officers & Emergency Wardens: Maintain current CPR competency to effectively respond to cardiac emergencies as part of workplace emergency response teams.
Construction, Civil & Mining Personnel: Many site-based roles require up-to-date CPR certification to meet WHS compliance and site access requirements.
Healthcare & Aged Care Workers: Support patient safety by maintaining the ability to perform CPR in clinical, community care, and aged care environments.
Fitness, Sport & Recreation Professionals: Personal trainers, coaches, and sports staff are required to keep CPR certification current to ensure participant safety.
Education & Childcare Workers: Teachers, educators, and childcare providers must maintain CPR competency to respond to emergencies involving children and young people.
Security & Public-Facing Roles: Security personnel, event staff, and customer-facing workers benefit from current CPR skills to manage incidents in public environments.
To enrol in this refresher course, students must:
Have successfully completed Provide CPR (HLTAID009) units within the last 12 months.
Be at least 14 years of age.
Have basic computer skills and access to the internet.
Have sufficient language, literacy and numeracy (LLN) skills to complete assessments.
Hold a valid Unique Student Identifier (USI) - mandatory for all nationally recognised training. If you don't already have a USI, you can apply for one online at www.usi.gov.au, or we can apply for one for you.
Students must provide the following evidence:
A clear copy of your driver's licence or other photo identification.
A Statement of Attainment issued by an RTO confirming successful completion of HLTAID009.
Note: Wallet cards will not be accepted unless they meet AQF requirements for an accredited Statement of Attainment.
Important Information:
To avoid delay in processing and issuing your Statement of Attainment, please ensure payment or a company purchase order is provided at enrolment.
If you are submitting a USI transcript, it must include a QR verification code.
If the student does not meet the refresher eligibility requirements and is required to complete the full course, an additional assessment fee will apply for the practical training and assessment component. This can be delivered at any of our training facilities across Australia.
