The Load and Unload Plant course provides you with the practical skills needed to safely load, secure, transport, and unload plant and equipment in civil, construction, mining, and related industries.
You'll learn about:
Legislation & Compliance: Understand WHS responsibilities, workplace procedures, and legislative requirements relating to loading, transporting, and unloading plant.
Planning & Preparation: Learn how to assess the task, identify equipment requirements, inspect transport vehicles and trailers, and plan safe loading and unloading activities.
Hazard Identification: Identify and manage hazards associated with loading and unloading plant, including ground conditions, environmental factors, and surrounding personnel and equipment.
Plant Inspection & Preparation: Conduct pre-operational inspections to ensure plant is safe for loading, transport, and unloading, and identify any faults or defects.
Safe Loading & Unloading Procedures: Safely load and unload a range of plant using appropriate techniques, following workplace procedures and manufacturer requirements.
Load Restraint & Security: Apply correct load restraint methods, secure plant for transport, and ensure compliance with relevant load restraint standards and regulations.
Traffic Management & Safety Controls: Implement risk control measures, exclusion zones, communication protocols, and traffic management procedures to maintain a safe work environment.
Emergency Procedures: Respond appropriately to incidents, equipment faults, load shifts, or emergencies that may occur during loading, transport, or unloading activities.
Communication & Documentation: Communicate effectively with team members, use hand signals or other approved communication methods, and complete required workplace documentation and reporting.

Mining & Resources Personnel: Operators, contractors, and maintenance crews responsible for moving plant and machinery between mining sites, workshops, and operational areas.
Roadworks & Infrastructure Teams: Road construction and maintenance workers, civil contractors, and infrastructure crews who regularly transport plant for resurfacing, repair, and upgrade works.
Transport & Logistics Workers: Heavy vehicle drivers, machinery transport operators, and logistics personnel responsible for loading, restraining, and unloading plant and equipment.
Landscaping & Grounds Maintenance Teams: Landscaping contractors and grounds crews who transport plant and equipment between residential, commercial, and public works sites.
Local Government & Council Workers: Council maintenance staff and public works teams involved in transporting plant for road repairs, parks maintenance, and community infrastructure projects.

There are no formal entry requirements for this course, however students will need:
Basic computer skills and internet access (for enrolment and online modules)
Adequate language, literacy, and numeracy (LLN) skills to complete assessments, and;
A valid Unique Student Identifier (USI) - mandatory for all nationally recognised training. If you don't already have a USI, you can apply for one online at www.usi.gov.au or we can apply for one for you.
