As October commences, workplaces across Australia will shine a spotlight on safety to mark National Safe Work Month 2024. This annual initiative, led by Safe Work Australia, is more than a calendar moment – it's a nationwide commitment to fostering safer workplaces, ensuring that all Australians return home safely, every day.
National Safe Work Month, is a month dedicated to raising awareness about the importance of workplace health and safety. It serves as a reminder that safety and preventing work-related injuries and illnesses is everyone's responsibility.
The theme for this year is "Safety is everyone's business'. It is a call to action for workers and employers to take personal responsibility for their safety and the safety of their colleagues.

The statistics speak for themselves. According to Safe Work Australia, in 2022, '195 workers were fatally injured at work, and 127,800 serious workers' compensation claims were made.' These incidents not only impact the individuals involved but, also affect their families, colleagues and the wider community. National Safe Work Month aims to reduce these numbers by promoting best practices, raising awareness, and encouraging proactive safety measures.
National Work Safe Month is more than a reminder, it's a conscious movement toward a safer and healthier work environment for everyone, not only in October but throughout the entire year. At Civil Safety we have a range of health and safety training courses to ensure you are at the forefront of current health and safety best practices.
