For reference, both courses offer the same outcome and both enable you to work on any Queensland Surface Coal and Metalliferous mining site. The only distinction is that this course is restricted to BMA personnel.
What is Standard 11? The Standard 11 Induction (Generic Induction) program equips resource workers with core risk assessment and safety skills required to operate safely on mine sites.
The Standard 11 Induction covers workers' health and safety requirements to be inducted onto Queensland Surface Coal and Metalliferous mining sites. The course meets all the requirements for Recognised Standard 11 training set by the Queensland Mining Safety Inspectorate. It includes the 6 nationally recognised units of competency required to meet the training needs of Standard 11 for induction.
This course is a requirement to work on Queensland Surface Coal and Metalliferous mining sites.

Course Outline
In the Standard 11 Mining Induction, you will complete the following units:
Access and apply site safety procedures
RIIERR205D - Apply initial response first aid
Assess the situation, apply basic first aid and complete incident reports
RIIGOV201E - Comply with site work processes/procedures
Access and apply site safety procedures, apply personal safety measures, maintain personal well-being, and complete site-related forms and reports
RIIRIS201E - Conduct local risk control
Hazard identification, risk assessment and control in a mine environment
RIICOM201E - Communicate in the workplace
Identify, access and use site communication equipment and systems, carry out work-related communication, and complete written documentation
RIIERR302E - Respond to local emergencies and incidents
Course Delivery
At Civil Safety, we use a blended delivery method, where you complete the theory component online anytime before coming in for your face-to-face practical training.
During your studies, you will receive feedback after each assessment and the Trainer/Assessor will be available to discuss the feedback or provide additional assistance or direction as appropriate.

Course Requirements
- BMA Employee ID or Service Contractor (SC) number and your BMA Site
- Students must provide photographic identification (i.e. driver’s licence, passport).
- Enclosed shoes
- Be at least 15 years of age; and
- Have sufficient language, literacy and numeracy skills to read, understand, and follow instructions for safety in the workplace.
It is a condition of enrolment in any nationally recognised training (accredited) program that you supply the training organisation with a valid unique student identifier (USI). If you don’t already have a USI, you can apply for one online at www.usi.gov.au or we can apply for one for you.
Course Refreshers
The standard refresher period for the Standard 11 Mining Induction is five years, a shorter period may be required where industry/company requirements are applicable. Individuals can refresh their competencies anytime within five years in line with these industry/company-specific requirements.
