The Operate Elevating Work Platform (EWP) online refresher course is designed for people who have previously completed EWP training and want to keep their skills up to date while maintaining site compliance

You’ll learn how to:

  • Plan and prepare for EWP operations, including interpreting work requirements and site documentation

  • Identify hazards, environmental issues, and risks, and implement control measures in line with site procedures

  • Access, interpret, and respond to EWP emergency procedures

  • Monitor hazards, respond to alarms, and maintain the safety of self, personnel, plant, and equipment

  • Correctly use tools and equipment on the EWP platform, following workplace procedures

  • Complete required documentation and report according to workplace procedures

Course Delivery and Assessment

This refresher course is delivered online, so you can complete your training anytime, anywhere with internet access. The program features interactive modules, videos, and real-world scenarios to refresh your knowledge and strengthen your ability to work safely with EWPs. You’ll have 30 days from enrolment to complete the course.

Assessment is competency-based and ensures you can apply safe work practices with confidence. It includes:

  • A final assessment to confirm your skills and compliance are current

Who Should Complete This Course?

This online refresher course is designed for individuals who are required to maintain their competency in operating an elevating work platform (EWP), in line with workplace, industry, and site-specific requirements.

It is suitable for:

  • Workers who operate boom-type elevating work platforms (11 metres or more)

  • Construction, mining, and infrastructure workers using EWPs on-site

  • Maintenance personnel, technicians, and installers working at heights

  • Supervisors and team leaders overseeing EWP operations

  • Contractors required to hold current RIIHAN301E certification for site access

  • Individuals whose EWP competency is due for renewal or refresher training

  • Workers required to maintain compliance with employer, principal contractor, or mine site requirements

This refresher course ensures you maintain the knowledge and practical skills required to safely plan, prepare, operate, and shut down elevating work platforms in accordance with legislative and site safety requirements.

Upon successful completion of this refresher course, you will be awarded a nationally recognised Statement of Attainment for:

This certification is nationally recognised under the Australian Qualifications Framework (AQF) and can support applications for higher roles in safety and compliance.

Entry Requirements

To enrol in this refresher course, students must:

  • Have successfully completed the Operate Elevating Work Platform (RIIHAN301E) unit within the last 5 years.

  • Be at least 15 years of age.

  • Have basic computer skills and access to the internet.

  • Have sufficient language, literacy and numeracy (LLN) skills to complete assessments.

  • Hold a valid Unique Student Identifier (USI) - mandatory for all nationally recognised training. If you don't already have a USI, you can apply for one online at www.usi.gov.au or we can apply for one for you.

Students must provide the following evidence:

  • A clear copy of your driver's licence or other photo identification.

  • A Statement of Attainment issued by an RTO confirming successful completion of RIIHAN301E.

Note: Wallet cards will not be accepted unless they meet AQF requirements for an accredited Statement of Attainment.

Important Information:

  • To avoid delay in processing and issuing your Statement of Attainment, please ensure payment or a company purchase order is provided at enrolment.

  • If you are submitting a USI transcript, it must include a QR verification code.

  • If the student does not meet the refresher eligibility requirements and is required to complete the full course, an additional assessment fee will apply for the practical training and assessment component. This can be delivered at any of our training facilities across Australia.
