The Health and Safety Representative (HSR) face-to-face refresher course is designed for experienced HSRs to maintain their edge and confidence in representing their workgroup. This one-day course moves beyond the basics, providing a high-level update on your rights and responsibilities under the latest safety legislation. Through interactive discussion and case studies, you will bridge the gap between initial training and current workplace challenges, ensuring you remain a powerful advocate for a safer work environment.
This WorkSafe-approved refresher is designed for experienced HSRs to sharpen their skills and bridge the gap between their initial training and the current legal landscape. Rather than re-learning the basics, you will dive into the high-level application of your powers to drive safer outcomes in today’s modern workplace.
This face-to-face refresher course is designed for HSRs who have already completed their initial training and need to maintain their knowledge and skills to continue representing workers effectively.
It is suitable for:
Current Health and Safety Representatives (HSRs) who need to refresh their certification
HSRs responsible for consulting with workers and management on health and safety matters
Personnel who participate in risk assessments, incident investigations, and workplace inspections
Team leaders and supervisors who act in a health and safety advisory role
Workers across industries such as:
Construction and civil
Mining and resources
Manufacturing and processing
Oil and gas
Utilities and infrastructure
Government and public services
Refresher training ensures HSRs remain competent in consultation, hazard identification, risk management, and workplace health and safety obligations, in line with guidance from Safe Work Australia.
The HSR role is widely recognised as the best "entry-level" experience for a career in Work Health and Safety.. Completing the Health and Safety Representative (HSR) course can open the door to a variety of workplace health and safety roles, including:
Health and Safety Officer: You can leverage your HSR experience to transition into a full-time safety role. Many HSRs follow this by completing a Certificate IV in Work Health and Safety (BSB41419).
Safety Coordinator: Managing safety procedures, reporting incidents, and promoting a safety-first culture. Large sites (especially in construction or mining) often look for coordinators who have "ground-floor" experience communicating with both workers and management.
Workplace Safety Advisor: Advising management and staff on compliance with safety legislation and best practices.
Health and Safety Consultant: Providing expert guidance to improve safety standards across multiple sites or organisations.
