The Licence to Operate a Boom-Type EWP (11m+) course provides you with the practical knowledge and hands-on experience to safely operate a boom lift and scissor lift at heights of 11 metres or more. You’ll learn about:
Legislation & Compliance: Understand WHS and workplace requirements for operating elevated work platforms. Hazard Identification: Recognise hazards and risks when working at height.
Risk Assessment & Planning: Plan safe operations and implement control measures before use.
Pre-Start Checks & Maintenance: Inspect boom lifts and scissor lifts and perform routine safety checks.
Safe Operating Procedures: Operate EWPs efficiently while minimising risks to yourself and others.
Load Handling & Work Positioning: Safely handle materials and position platforms for tasks at height.
Emergency Procedures & Rescue: Respond effectively to incidents, including emergency lowering procedures.
Shutdown & Storage Procedures: Secure the EWP safely after operations.
Communication & Reporting: Report hazards, incidents, and maintenance issues in line with workplace procedures.
By the end of the course, you’ll be confident in your ability to operate an EWP safely, manage hazards, and comply with workplace safety standards.
Due to the high-risk nature of operating an EWP at heights, the Licence to Operate a Boom-Type EWP (11m+) course is delivered face-to-face over three full days. You’ll gain hands-on experience in a controlled environment, building both confidence and competence while receiving direct guidance and personalised feedback from experienced trainers throughout the course.
After successfully completing this course, you can apply for your High Risk Work Licence (HRWL). HRWLs are valid for five years and can be renewed online via the WorkSafe QLD or WorkSafe WA websites. If your licence expires, you are no longer recognised as a licensed operator until it is renewed. You have 60 days from course completion to submit your application. If you prefer, we can apply for the licence on your behalf for an additional fee of $100.
