The Conduct Civil Construction Backhoe/Loader Operations (RIIMPO319) course equips you with the knowledge and hands-on skills to operate backhoe/loaders safely and effectively in a civil construction environment.
You’ll learn about:
Legislation & Compliance: Understand WHS responsibilities, workplace procedures and legal requirements for operating backhoe/loaders.
Hazard Identification: Identify site hazards, underground and overhead services, ground conditions and environmental factors that may affect operations.
Backhoe/Loader Equipment: Learn about backhoe/loader components, controls, attachments and their correct applications.
Pre-Operational Checks & Maintenance: Perform inspections, safety checks and basic maintenance before and after operating the machine.
Safe Operating Procedures: Operate backhoe/loaders safely to excavate, load, carry and place materials.
Excavation & Material Handling: Use the machine for common civil construction tasks, including excavation, trenching, loading and material movement.
Stability & Load Management: Understand machine stability, load limits and operating conditions to help maintain safe and controlled operations.
Control Measures & Safety Planning: Apply site-specific risk controls, traffic management requirements and safe work procedures.
Emergency Procedures: Respond appropriately to equipment failures, incidents and other emergencies during operations.
Communication & Reporting: Follow workplace communication procedures and report hazards, incidents, defects and equipment issues as required.
By the end of the course, you’ll have the practical skills and knowledge to safely operate a backhoe/loader and carry out common excavation, loading and material-handling tasks in a civil construction environment.
Course Delivery and Assessment
In order to provide you with the best learning outcomes possible, this course is delivered via a mix of online learning and face-to-face training. You will be assigned an experienced Trainer Assessor for support throughout your course.
Step 1 - Complete Online Module (within 30 days)
The online modules are self-paced and include assessments (quizzes, written tasks, or short exercises) to ensure understanding.
Step 2 - Attend 1 Day of Face-to-Face Training
Your trainer will give you practical tasks to complete based on the information you’ve learned in your online theory module.
You will need to pass both steps in order to successfully complete the course.
