This combined course is designed to develop your ability to accurately diagnose and evaluate braking system faults across light vehicles, heavy commercial vehicles, and wheeled mobile plant. Combining all three units into one streamlined program, you’ll gain practical, job-ready skills that can be applied across multiple industries and equipment types.
Throughout the training, you’ll work through real-world fault scenarios and learn how to apply systematic diagnostic processes using industry-standard tools and procedures. The course focuses on improving fault-finding efficiency, reducing downtime, and supporting safe, compliant operation of vehicles and machinery.
You’ll learn to:
Identify and analyse braking system faults across different vehicle types
Apply diagnostic procedures to hydraulic, pneumatic, and electronic braking systems
Interpret test results and evaluate system performance

In order to provide you with the best learning outcomes possible, this course is delivered via a mix of online learning and face-to-face training. You will be assigned an experienced Trainer Assessor for support throughout your course.
At one of our training facilities. Assessment will include quizzes, written tasks, or short exercises to ensure understanding.
Your trainer will give you practical tasks to complete based on the information you’ve learned in your online theory module.
You will need to pass both steps in order to successfully complete the course.

Upon successful completion of this course, you will be awarded a nationally recognised Statement of Attainment for:
AURHTB005 - Analyse and evaluate faults in heavy commercial vehicle braking systems
AURKTB002 - Analyse and evaluate faults in wheeled mobile plant braking systems
AURLTB002 - Analyse and evaluate faults in light vehicle braking systems
This certification is nationally recognised under the Australian Qualifications Framework (AQF) and can support applications for higher roles in safety and compliance.
Automotive & Workshop Roles: Light vehicle technicians, automotive mechanics, brake specialists, and workshop technicians responsible for diagnosing and repairing braking systems in cars and light commercial vehicles.
Heavy Vehicle & Transport: Diesel fitters, heavy vehicle mechanics, and fleet maintenance technicians working with trucks, buses, and transport equipment to ensure safe and compliant braking performance.
Supervisory & Specialist Roles: Leading hands, workshop supervisors, and senior technicians overseeing maintenance teams, diagnostics, and compliance across mixed fleets.
Construction & Civil: Plant mechanics and maintenance crews supporting construction equipment, ensuring machinery remains operational and safe on-site.
There are no formal entry requirements; however, students will need:
To be at least 16 years of age
Basic computer skills and internet access (for enrolment and communication)
Sufficient language, literacy, and numeracy (LLN) skills to complete assessments
A valid Unique Student Identifier (USI) - mandatory for all nationally recognised training. If you don’t have one, you can apply at usi.gov.au or we can assist.

The 3 Course Brake Testing is delivered face-to-face over 1 day.
There are no formal entry requirements for this course. However, it is expected that you have basic computer skills, LLN competency, and a valid USI are required (if you don't have one you can apply at usi.gov.au or we can assist).
