The Conduct Grader Operations (RIIMPO310F) course provides the practical skills and knowledge needed to operate graders safely and effectively in civil construction environments. You’ll learn how to complete pre-start checks, identify and manage site hazards, prepare and grade surfaces, operate the grader safely, and follow workplace health and safety procedures.

The Conduct Grader Operations (RIIMPO310F) course provides the practical knowledge and skills needed to operate graders safely and effectively across a range of civil construction tasks.
You’ll learn about:
Legislation & Compliance: Understand WHS legislation, workplace procedures, and your responsibilities as a grader operator.
Hazard Identification: Identify worksite hazards, underground services, ground conditions, and environmental factors that may affect grader operations.
Grader Equipment: Learn about grader components, controls, attachments, and their safe applications.
Pre-Operational Checks & Maintenance: Conduct pre-start inspections, identify defects, and carry out basic equipment checks and maintenance.
Safe Operating Procedures: Operate graders safely and effectively to perform tasks such as trimming, levelling, spreading, and grading surfaces.
Grading Techniques: Develop practical skills to achieve the required levels, profiles, slopes, and surface finishes.
Control Measures & Safety Planning: Apply risk controls, plan tasks, and follow site traffic management and safety procedures.
Emergency Procedures: Respond appropriately to equipment malfunctions, changing ground conditions, and workplace emergencies.
Communication & Reporting: Follow workplace communication procedures and report hazards, incidents, defects, and maintenance requirements.
By the end of the course, you’ll have the skills and knowledge to safely operate a grader and perform a range of civil construction grading tasks while following workplace procedures and safety requirements.
Course Delivery and Assessment
In order to provide you with the best learning outcomes possible, this course is delivered via a mix of online learning and face-to-face training. You will be assigned an experienced Trainer Assessor for support throughout your course.
Step 1 - Complete Online Module (within 30 days)
The online modules are self-paced and include assessments (quizzes, written tasks, or short exercises) to ensure understanding.
Step 2 - Attend 1 Day of Face-to-Face Training
Your trainer will give you practical tasks to complete based on the information you’ve learned in your online theory module.
You will need to pass both steps in order to successfully complete the course.

Construction and trades workers - Anyone required to operate graders on building, road, or civil construction projects.
Civil construction staff - Workers involved in earthworks, road construction, site preparation, levelling, and surface finishing.
Road and infrastructure crews - Teams using graders for road formation, maintenance, drainage works, and infrastructure projects.
Mining and resources personnel - Operators working with graders for road construction, site preparation, maintenance, and other earthmoving tasks on mine sites.

Entry Requirements
There are no formal entry requirements; however, students will need:
To be at least 16 years of age
Basic computer skills and internet access (for enrolment and communication)
Sufficient language, literacy, and numeracy (LLN) skills to complete assessments
A valid Unique Student Identifier (USI) - mandatory for all nationally recognised training. If you don’t have one, you can apply at usi.gov.au or we can assist.

Funding is Available For this Course
Construction Training Fund WA
Eligible apprentices, trainees, workers and business owners in WA’s building and construction industry can save up to 70% on metro courses and 80% on regional courses with CTF funding. As an approved provider, we can handle the paperwork and claim process for you, so you only pay the gap while you upskill, get licences, and complete safety courses.
