ur combined Issue Work Permits and Conduct Hazard Analysis course provides you with the practical skills and knowledge to identify workplace hazards, assess risks, implement effective controls and safely manage work activities under permit systems. The combined Issue Work Permits + Conduct Hazard Analysis course provides you with the practical skills and knowledge to identify hazards, assess and control risks, and safely manage work activities through workplace permit systems. You’ll learn how to conduct hazard analysis, work under issued permits, monitor permit conditions, observe permit-controlled activities and issue permits in accordance with workplace procedures.

You’ll learn about:

Conducting Hazard Analysis
  • Identify hazards associated with workplace activities, tasks, equipment and the work environment.

  • Assess risks and determine appropriate control measures to reduce risks to as low as reasonably practicable (ALARP).

  • Apply the hierarchy of controls when selecting and implementing risk controls.

  • Consider how hazards and work activities can interact and create additional risks.

  • Communicate identified hazards, risks and control measures to relevant personnel.

  • Record hazard analysis outcomes accurately in accordance with workplace procedures.

  • Monitor and review controls to ensure risks remain effectively managed throughout the work activity.

Working in Accordance with Work Permits
  • Understand the purpose, requirements and conditions of workplace work permits.

  • Follow the conditions and control measures specified on an issued permit.

  • Confirm that work is undertaken within the scope and requirements of the permit.

  • Identify and respond appropriately to changes in work conditions or permit requirements.

  • Communicate permit conditions and requirements with relevant workers and personnel.

  • Follow workplace procedures for permit changes, suspension, cancellation and completion.

Monitoring and Controlling Work Permits
  • Monitor work activities to ensure they remain within the conditions of the issued permit.

  • Check that required controls and safety precautions remain in place throughout the work.

  • Identify changes in conditions that may affect the validity or safety of the permit.

  • Take appropriate action when permit conditions are not being followed.

Entry Requirements

MSMWHS201 - Conduct Hazard Analysis is a prerequisite for MSMPER300 - Issue Work Permits. Both units are included in this combined course, with MSMWHS201 completed before progressing to MSMPER300.

To enrol, you’ll need:

  • Basic computer skills and internet access for enrolment, course communication and any online learning or assessment activities.

  • Sufficient language, literacy and numeracy (LLN) skills to understand the course materials, participate in training and complete the required assessments.

  • A valid Unique Student Identifier (USI), which is mandatory for all nationally recognised training. If you don’t have one, you can apply through usi.gov.au or we can assist you.
