Elevating Work Platforms (EWPs) are commonly used across construction, mining, maintenance, warehousing, telecommunications, and infrastructure industries to safely access elevated work areas.
This course provides the knowledge and practical skills required to safely operate both:
Scissor lifts
Boom-type elevating work platforms
You’ll learn how to:
Understand the legal requirements, standards, and responsibilities associated with operating elevating work platforms
Identify different types of scissor lifts and boom lifts, including their capabilities, limitations, and appropriate applications
Plan and prepare for safe EWP operations, including reviewing job requirements and selecting suitable equipment
Conduct pre-operational inspections, hazard identification, and risk assessments before use
Implement appropriate control measures, including the correct use of fall protection and safety systems
Safely operate elevating work platforms, including positioning, elevating, lowering, and manoeuvring equipment
Maintain stability and safety by understanding load limits, weight distribution, and platform capacity
Operate EWPs safely in active work environments while maintaining situational awareness and clear communication with others
Respond appropriately to emergencies, including emergency lowering procedures
Shut down, secure, and isolate equipment in accordance with workplace procedures
Identify faults, defects, or maintenance requirements and report them correctly
This training ensures participants develop the competency and confidence required to operate elevating work platforms safely and effectively in real workplace conditions.
In order to provide you with the best learning outcomes possible, this course is delivered via a mix of online learning and face-to-face training. You will be assigned an experienced Trainer Assessor for support throughout your course.
The online modules are self-paced and include assessments (quizzes, written tasks, or short exercises) to ensure understanding.
Your trainer will give you practical tasks to complete based on the information you’ve learned in your online theory module.
You will need to pass both steps in order to successfully complete the course.
Completing the combined EWP course alone does not qualify you for a EWP licence. To become licensed, you must successfully complete the final assessment, After successfully completing this course, you can apply for your High Risk Work Licence (HRWL). You have 60 days from course completion to submit your application. HRWLs are valid for five years and can be applied for or renewed online via the WorkSafe QLD or WorkSafe WA websites. If your licence expires, you are no longer recognised as a licensed operator until it is renewed. WorkSafe provides a 12-month grace period for renewal; if this period passes, you will need to resit both the written and practical assessments.
If you are one of our corporate clients, we can apply for the licence on your behalf for an additional fee of $160 (which includes the WorkSafe fee).
