The Licence to Perform Rigging (Intermediate) course builds on your foundational rigging knowledge, providing the practical skills and confidence to safely perform more complex rigging operations across construction, industrial, and civil works sites. You’ll gain hands-on experience planning lifts, selecting and inspecting rigging gear, attaching and moving loads, and coordinating with crane operators and site teams in challenging scenarios.
This nationally recognised qualification is designed for those who already have basic rigging experience or a Licence to Perform Rigging (Basic) and want to expand their capabilities. By the end of the course, you’ll be able to manage intermediate rigging tasks safely, efficiently, and in full compliance with workplace regulations.

The Licence to Perform Rigging (Intermediate) course builds on your basic rigging knowledge, providing advanced skills and hands-on experience to safely perform intermediate rigging operations. You’ll develop practical competence in managing more complex lifts, coordinating with multiple personnel, and working with a wider range of rigging gear and lifting equipment. You’ll learn about:
Advanced Rigging Equipment & Gear: Safely work with multi-leg slings, wire ropes, load-lifting devices, spreader bars, and associated rigging gear.
Legislation & Compliance: Understand WHS and workplace requirements for intermediate rigging operations.
Hazard Identification: Recognise hazards when planning and performing intermediate lifts.
Risk Assessment & Planning: Plan and implement control measures for complex lifting operations.
Load Attachment & Movement: Attach, move, and release loads safely using correct rigging techniques and communication signals.
Inspection & Maintenance: Conduct thorough inspections of rigging gear and lifting equipment, identifying defects or unsafe components.
Emergency Procedures & Rescue: Respond effectively to incidents, such as load instability or equipment failure.
Communication & Teamwork: Coordinate lifts safely with doggers, crane operators, and other site personnel, ensuring smooth and compliant operations.
By the end of the course, you’ll be confident in performing intermediate rigging tasks, managing complex lifting operations, and maintaining full compliance with workplace safety standards.
Due to the high-risk nature of rigging work, the Licence to Perform Rigging (Intermediate) course is delivered face-to-face. You’ll gain hands-on experience in a controlled environment, building both confidence and competence while receiving direct guidance and personalised feedback from experienced trainers throughout the course.
After successfully completing this course, you can apply for your High Risk Work Licence (HRWL). You have 60 days from course completion to submit your application. HRWLs are valid for five years and can be applied for or renewed online via the WorkSafe QLD or WorkSafe WA websites. If your licence expires, you are no longer recognised as a licensed operator until it is renewed. WorkSafe provides a 12-month grace period for renewal; if this period passes, you will need to resit both the written and practical assessments.

You must satisfy each of the following criteria to enrol in this course:
You must be at least 18 years old (a requirement for High Risk Work Licences).
Wear steel-capped or safety boots to your session and PPE.
Basic computer skills and internet access (for enrolment and communication).
Sufficient language, literacy, and numeracy (LLN) skills to complete assessments.
A valid Unique Student Identifier (USI) - mandatory for all nationally recognised training. If you don’t have one, you can apply at usi.gov.au or we can assist.
