The G189 (formerly S123) Mining Supervisor course is a nationally recognised training program and an essential qualification for people wanting to transition into a supervisory role in Queensland’s coal mining industry. The course provides the knowledge and practical skills needed to lead teams confidently, manage safety risks and support compliance with relevant industry legislation and site procedures.
Delivered face-to-face by experienced trainers, this course combines interactive classroom learning with practical activities and real-world mining scenarios, giving you the opportunity to develop the confidence and skills required to effectively supervise teams, manage workplace risks and support a strong safety culture onsite.
You’ll develop the ability to communicate effectively, identify and control workplace hazards, investigate safety incidents and foster a safer, more efficient and productive work environment.

G189 Mining Supervisor - F2F - Course Information
The G189 course equips you with the practical skills and knowledge required to supervise mining operations safely, confidently, and in line with industry and legislative requirements.
Throughout this course, you’ll learn how to:
Implement and monitor workplace health and safety procedures in mining environments.
Identify hazards, assess and control risks, and ensure compliance with WHS legislation and site requirements.
Plan and coordinate work activities, allocate resources, and supervise teams effectively.
Promote a strong safety culture and manage workplace behaviours professionally.
Understand mining operations, equipment, and site processes relevant to your supervisory role.
Respond to incidents, coordinate emergency procedures, and participate in incident investigations.
Communicate clearly with workers and management, and provide guidance, support, and mentoring to team members.
By the end of the course, you’ll be prepared to take on supervisory responsibilities and help ensure safe, productive, and compliant mining operations.
Course Delivery and Assessment
In order to provide you with the best learning outcomes possible, this course is delivered face-to-face. You will be assigned an experienced Trainer Assessor for support throughout your course.
Step 1 - Complete theory module
In person at one of our training facilities. Assessment will include quizzes, written tasks, or short exercises to ensure understanding.
Step 2 - Complete face-to-face training
In person at one of our training facilities. Your trainer will give you practical tasks to complete based on the information you’ve learned in your online theory module.
You will need to pass both steps in order to successfully complete the course.

Course Outcome
The G189 Mining Supervisors course is nationally recognised under the Australian Qualifications Framework (AQF). Upon successful completion, you'll receive a Statement of Attainment for the following three 3 accredited units of competency:

Entry Requirements
There are no formal entry requirements for this course, however students will need:
To be at least 18 years of age
Adequate language, literacy, and numeracy (LLN) skills to complete assessments and;
A valid Unique Student Identifier (USI) - mandatory for all nationally recognised training. If you don't already have a USI, you can apply for one online at www.usi.gov.au or we can apply for one for you.

There are no formal entry requirements for this course. However is expected that you have basic computer skills, LLN competency, and a valid USI are required (if you don't have one you can apply at usi.gov.au or we can assist).
You’ll complete the G189 (S123) Mining Supervisor course face-to-face over 1 day with our experienced trainers, covering key topics through interactive discussions, practical activities, and workplace scenarios.
