The Certificate III in Rigging (CPC30720) equips you with the practical skills and theoretical knowledge required to work safely and efficiently in rigging operations. This course prepares you for a rewarding career in rigging, giving you the skills to perform lifting and rigging activities and progress into more advanced roles across the construction, mining, and industrial sectors.
You'll learn how to:
Plan, prepare, and perform rigging operations for a range of lifting activities
Select, inspect, and safely use appropriate rigging equipment and lifting gear
Safely sling and move loads using a range of rigging techniques
Erect, dismantle, and modify structures and associated rigging equipment
Interpret plans, specifications, and rigging information relevant to lifting operations
Apply safe work practices and follow workplace procedures and industry standards
Identify hazards, assess risks, and implement appropriate control measures
Use appropriate tools, equipment, and personal protective equipment (PPE)
Communicate effectively with crane operators, doggers, and other members of the work team
Carry out routine inspections, maintenance, and housekeeping of rigging equipment

Course Delivery and Assessment
The Certificate III in Rigging is delivered face-to-face, providing a practical and hands-on learning experience designed to prepare you for work in high-risk rigging and construction environments. Under the guidance of experienced trainers, you’ll participate in practical training activities that reflect real workplace conditions across construction, mining, and industrial sites. You have 12 months to complete the course.
Assessment is competency-based, meaning you’ll be evaluated on your ability to perform rigging tasks and apply your knowledge in realistic workplace scenarios. This includes:
• Practical demonstrations of rigging skills, including slinging loads, selecting and inspecting rigging equipment, and carrying out rigging operations
• Observation of tasks in simulated or real workplace environments
• Written assessments to confirm your understanding of key concepts, including WHS requirements, rigging principles, and regulatory compliance
This practical training approach ensures you gain both the knowledge and hands-on experience needed to work safely and effectively in rigging roles, while building the capability required for construction, mining, and industrial site environments.
