Introduction


Our Licence to Erect, Alter and Dismantle Scaffolding (Basic) course gives you the practical skills and confidence to safely work with basic scaffolding systems. You’ll gain hands-on experience in erecting, altering, and dismantling scaffolds, including correct procedures, hazard identification, risk assessment, and safe work practices – all delivered in realistic, workplace-focused scenarios.

This nationally recognised qualification is ideal for anyone in construction, maintenance, or related industries. By the end of the course, you’ll be competent in scaffolding operations, understand workplace safety requirements, and be ready to perform your tasks safely and efficiently.

Course Overview

The Licence to Erect, Alter and Dismantle Scaffolding (Basic) course provides you with the knowledge and hands-on experience to safely erect, alter, and dismantle basic scaffolding systems. You’ll gain practical skills and learn to manage risks effectively while working with a range of scaffolding types and associated equipment. You’ll learn about:

  • Equipment & Scaffold Types: Work safely with modular or pre-fabricated scaffolds, cantilevered materials hoists (up to 500 kg), ropes, gin wheels, safety nets, static lines, and bracket scaffolds (including tank and formwork scaffolds).
  • Legislation & Compliance: Understand WHS and workplace requirements for scaffold work.
  • Hazard Identification: Recognise hazards when erecting, altering, or dismantling scaffolds.
  • Risk Assessment & Planning: Plan scaffold operations and implement control measures before work begins.
  • Scaffold Erection & Dismantling: Safely erect, alter, and dismantle basic scaffolds in line with industry standards.
  • Load Handling & Stability: Ensure scaffold stability and safely manage materials on scaffold structures.
  • Inspection & Maintenance: Conduct routine checks and identify defective components.
  • Emergency Procedures & Rescue: Respond effectively to incidents, including scaffold failures or falls.
  • Communication & Reporting: Report hazards, incidents, and maintenance issues according to workplace procedures.

By the end of the course, you’ll be confident in safely working on basic scaffolding systems, handling equipment correctly, and managing associated risks in compliance with workplace safety standards.

 

Delivery & Assessment

Due to the high-risk nature of scaffolding work, the Licence to Erect, Alter and Dismantle Scaffolding (Basic) course is delivered face-to-face over five full days. You’ll gain hands-on experience in a controlled environment, building both confidence and competence while receiving direct guidance and personalised feedback from experienced trainers throughout the course.

High Risk Work Licences

After successfully completing this course, you can apply for your High Risk Work Licence (HRWL). HRWLs are valid for five years and can be applied for or renewed online via the WorkSafe QLD or WorkSafe WA websites. If your licence expires, you are no longer recognised as a licensed operator until it is renewed. WorkSafe provides a 12-month grace period for renewal; if this period passes, you will need to resit both the written and practical assessments.

You have 60 days from course completion to submit your application. If you prefer, we can apply for the licence on your behalf for an additional fee of $100.

Entry Requirements

You must satisfy each of the following criteria to enrol in this course:

  • You must be at least 18 years old (a requirement for High Risk Work Licences)
  • Wear steel-capped or safety boots to your session and PPE.
  • Basic computer skills and internet access (for enrolment and communication).
  • Sufficient language, literacy, and numeracy (LLN) skills to complete assessments.
  • A valid Unique Student Identifier (USI) - mandatory for all nationally recognised training. If you don’t have one, you can apply at usi.gov.au or we can assist.

 


Funding is Available For this Course

Construction Training Fund (CTF - WA)
Eligible apprentices, trainees, workers and business owners in WA’s building and construction industry can save up to 70% per course (metro) and 80% per course (regional) with CTF funding. As an approved bulk billing provider, we handle the paperwork and claim process for you - so you only pay the gap while you upskill, get licences, and complete safety courses.
