The Intermediate and Advanced Scaffolding combined course provides the skills and knowledge required to safely erect, alter and dismantle intermediate and advanced scaffolding structures across construction, civil, industrial and resources worksites.
Through a combination of practical, hands-on training and theory, you’ll learn how to plan and carry out more complex scaffolding operations, select and use appropriate equipment, interpret scaffolding plans and specifications, erect and dismantle scaffolding structures, and identify and manage hazards associated with advanced scaffolding work.
Combining both levels into one course provides a convenient pathway for experienced scaffolding workers looking to expand their skills, increase the range of scaffolding work they can perform and progress into more complex scaffolding operations.

2 Course Bundle - Intermediate & Advanced Scaffolding - Course Information
The Intermediate and Advanced Scaffolding combined course provides you with the skills and knowledge required to safely erect, alter and dismantle a broader range of scaffolding structures across construction, civil, industrial and resources worksites. Building on existing scaffolding skills, you’ll develop the practical capabilities needed to plan and carry out more complex scaffolding operations, interpret plans and specifications, select appropriate equipment and manage hazards associated with intermediate and advanced scaffolding work.
You’ll learn about:
Intermediate & Advanced Scaffolding Techniques: Erect, alter and dismantle intermediate and advanced scaffolding structures safely and efficiently in accordance with workplace requirements.
Scaffold Planning: Interpret plans, specifications and workplace instructions to determine scaffolding requirements and ensure complex scaffold work is properly planned before commencing.
Scaffolding Components & Equipment: Identify, select and correctly use a range of scaffold components, tools, equipment and associated materials for intermediate and advanced scaffolding work.
Complex Scaffold Assembly: Safely assemble more complex scaffolding structures using appropriate components, connections, bracing, ties and support systems.
Alterations & Modifications: Safely alter and modify scaffolding structures to accommodate changing work requirements while maintaining structural integrity and stability.
Dismantling Procedures: Safely dismantle scaffolding in the correct sequence and manage components to minimise risks to workers and others.
Stability & Structural Integrity: Apply knowledge of foundations, bracing, ties, loading, support systems and environmental conditions to maintain scaffold stability and structural integrity.
Hazard Identification & Risk Control: Identify and control hazards associated with complex scaffolding operations, including working at heights, falling objects, scaffold collapse, manual handling and changing site conditions.
Work at Heights & Fall Prevention: Apply appropriate fall prevention controls and safe work practices when working on and around scaffolding structures.
Legislation & Compliance: Apply relevant WHS legislation, codes of practice, Australian Standards and workplace procedures to intermediate and advanced scaffolding operations.
Scaffold Inspection & Safety: Inspect scaffolding structures and components to identify defects, damage, instability or other unsafe conditions and take appropriate action.
Safe Work Practices: Apply exclusion zones, barricades, signage and other control measures to protect workers and other people in the vicinity of scaffolding operations.
Workplace Communication & Reporting: Follow workplace communication procedures and report hazards, defects, incidents and other safety issues as required.
By the end of the course, you’ll have developed the skills and knowledge to safely undertake a broader range of intermediate and advanced scaffolding operations, including the erection, alteration and dismantling of more complex scaffolding structures, in accordance with workplace safety and regulatory requirements.
Course Delivery and Assessment
Due to the high-risk nature of scaffolding work, the Licence to Perform Intermediate & Advanced Scaffolding combined course is delivered face-to-face over 7 days. You’ll gain hands-on experience in a controlled environment, building both confidence and competence while receiving direct guidance and personalised feedback from experienced trainers throughout the course.
High Risk Work Licences
After successfully completing this course, you can apply for your High Risk Work Licence (HRWL). You have 60 days from course completion to submit your application. HRWLs are valid for five years and can be applied for or renewed online via the WorkSafe QLD or WorkSafe WA websites. If your licence expires, you are no longer recognised as a licensed operator until it is renewed. WorkSafe provides a 12-month grace period for renewal; if this period passes, you will need to resit both the written and practical assessments.
If you are one of our corporate clients, we can apply for the licence on your behalf for an additional fee of $160 (which includes the WorkSafe fee).

Course Outcome
Upon successful completion of this course, you will be awarded a nationally recognised Statement of Attainment for:
CPCCLSF3001 – Licence to Erect, Alter and Dismantle Scaffolding Intermediate Level
CPCCLSF4001 – Licence to Erect, Alter and Dismantle Scaffolding Advanced Level
These units are nationally recognised and provide the skills and knowledge required to erect, alter and dismantle scaffolding at the intermediate and advanced levels.
Successful completion can support your application for the relevant High Risk Work Licence (HRWL) classes, subject to meeting the applicable licensing requirements and assessment processes.

Entry Requirements
You must satisfy each of the following criteria to enrol in the Intermediate and Advanced Scaffolding combined course:
Be at least 18 years old, as required for High Risk Work Licences.
Hold the required prerequisite scaffolding licence or competency, where applicable, before undertaking the Intermediate and Advanced Scaffolding training and assessment.
Wear appropriate PPE, including steel-capped or safety boots, to all practical training sessions. Additional PPE requirements will be advised before training.
Have sufficient language, literacy and numeracy (LLN) skills to understand course materials, participate in training and complete required assessments.
Have basic computer skills and internet access for enrolment, course communication and any online learning or assessment activities.
Hold a valid Unique Student Identifier (USI), which is mandatory for all nationally recognised training. If you don't have a USI, you can apply through usi.gov.au or we can assist you.
Please note: The Intermediate and Advanced Scaffolding course is designed for experienced scaffolding workers who have the required prerequisite skills and experience. You must meet all applicable training, licensing and eligibility requirements before undertaking the relevant High Risk Work Licence assessment.
