The Intermediate and Advanced Rigging combined course provides the skills and knowledge required to safely perform a broader range of rigging operations across construction, civil, industrial and resources worksites. Through a combination of practical, hands-on training and theory, you’ll develop the skills to plan and execute complex rigging tasks, select and inspect lifting equipment, safely erect and dismantle structures, and work with a range of loads and lifting equipment.
Combining both levels into one course provides a convenient pathway for experienced riggers looking to expand their capabilities and undertake more complex rigging work.

CPCCLRG4001 – Licence to Perform Rigging (Advanced)

2 Course Bundle - Licence to Perform Rigging - Intermediate & Advanced - Course Information
The Intermediate and Advanced Rigging combined course provides you with the skills and knowledge required to safely perform intermediate and advanced rigging operations across construction, civil, industrial and resources worksites. Building on foundational rigging skills, you’ll develop the practical capabilities needed to plan and carry out more complex rigging tasks, work with a wider range of lifting equipment and safely erect, dismantle and move structures and equipment.
You'll learn about:
Advanced Rigging Techniques: Safely plan and perform a range of intermediate and advanced rigging operations using specialised lifting equipment, rigging systems and techniques.
Structural Rigging: Erect, dismantle and relocate structures, plant and equipment, including structural steel and other complex components.
Lifting Equipment & Rigging Gear: Select, inspect and correctly use a range of slings, chains, wire ropes, lifting beams, spreader bars, hoists, winches and other specialised rigging equipment.
Load Calculations & Lift Planning: Determine load weights, centre of gravity, lifting points, sling configurations and equipment requirements when planning complex lifting operations.
Hoisting & Mechanical Advantage: Set up and safely use hoists, winches and associated rigging systems to raise, lower and position loads.
Crane & Lifting Operations: Work effectively with crane operators and other site personnel to coordinate complex lifting and rigging activities.
Legislation & Compliance: Apply relevant WHS legislation, codes of practice, Australian Standards and workplace procedures to intermediate and advanced rigging operations.
Hazard Identification & Risk Control: Identify and manage hazards associated with suspended loads, structural work, lifting operations, working at heights and complex rigging activities.
Rigging Equipment Inspection: Inspect rigging equipment and lifting accessories for wear, damage, defects and suitability before use, and correctly remove defective equipment from service.
Safe Work Practices: Apply safe work procedures, exclusion zones, communication protocols and control measures when undertaking complex rigging tasks.
Emergency Procedures: Respond appropriately to equipment failure, dropped loads, unexpected load movement and other incidents that may occur during rigging operations.
Workplace Communication & Reporting: Communicate clearly with crane operators, doggers, supervisors and other workers, and accurately report hazards, incidents and equipment defects.
By the end of the course, you’ll have developed the skills to safely undertake a broader range of intermediate and advanced rigging operations, including complex lifting, structural rigging, hoisting and the erection, dismantling and relocation of structures, plant and equipment, in line with workplace safety and regulatory requirements.
Course Delivery and Assessment
Due to the high-risk nature of dogging and rigging work, the Licence to Perform Rigging (Intermediate and Advanced) combined course is delivered face-to-face over 6 days. You’ll gain hands-on experience in a controlled environment, building both confidence and competence while receiving direct guidance and personalised feedback from experienced trainers throughout the course.
High Risk Work Licences
After successfully completing this course, you can apply for your High Risk Work Licence (HRWL). You have 60 days from course completion to submit your application. HRWLs are valid for five years and can be applied for or renewed online via the WorkSafe QLD or WorkSafe WA websites. If your licence expires, you are no longer recognised as a licensed operator until it is renewed. WorkSafe provides a 12-month grace period for renewal; if this period passes, you will need to resit both the written and practical assessments.
If you are one of our corporate clients, we can apply for the licence on your behalf for an additional fee of $160 (which includes the WorkSafe fee).

Upon successful completion of this course, you will be awarded a nationally recognised Statement of Attainment for:
CPCCLRG3002 – Licence to Perform Rigging (Intermediate)
CPCCLRG4001 – Licence to Perform Rigging (Advanced)
These units are nationally recognised under the Australian Qualifications Framework (AQF) and contribute to the skills and competencies required for intermediate and advanced rigging work. Successful completion can support your application for the relevant High Risk Work Licence (HRWL) classes, subject to meeting the applicable licensing requirements and assessment processes.

Entry Requirements
You must satisfy each of the following criteria to enrol in the Intermediate and Advanced Rigging combined course:
Hold a current Licence to Perform Dogging and Licence to Perform Rigging (Basic). These are mandatory prerequisites for progressing to intermediate and advanced rigging.
Be at least 18 years old, as required for High Risk Work Licences.
Wear appropriate PPE, including steel-capped or safety boots, to all practical training sessions. Additional PPE requirements will be advised before training.
Have sufficient language, literacy and numeracy (LLN) skills to understand course materials, participate in training and complete required assessments.
Have basic computer skills and internet access for enrolment, course communication and any online learning or assessment activities.
Hold a valid Unique Student Identifier (USI), which is mandatory for all nationally recognised training. If you don't have a USI, you can apply through usi.gov.au or we can assist you.
