Course Overview
Across two training days and supervised workplace practice, you’ll gain the knowledge, skills, and confidence to operate an Elevating Work Platform (EWP) safely. This course is ideal for people starting out in EWP operations and businesses wanting to ensure their staff are properly trained and documented without immediately progressing to the High Risk Work Licence assessment. You’ll learn how to:

• Apply workplace health and safety (WHS) requirements when operating an EWP.
• Understand the responsibilities of both students and employers during supervised practice.
• Operate an EWP under supervision and record workplace hours in your logbook.
• Prepare for your final written and practical assessments after completing 40 hours of on-the-job experience.

By the end of the course, you’ll have the logbook, supervised hours, and foundational skills required to confidently take the next step toward your EWP Licence.

Delivery & Assessment

The EWP Logbook course is delivered over two (2) days. By the end of the course, you’ll be confident in your ability to operate an EWP safely, manage hazards, and comply with workplace safety standards.

Day 1: Formal training covering both theory and practical skills, which are recorded in your individual training plan and logbook.
Day 2: Work Health and Safety (WHS) assessment, provided you have completed the required logbook hours in the workplace.

During training, we’ll explain WHS requirements for logbook use and employer responsibilities. For example:

• EWPs must always be operated under supervision.
• All workplace training must be logged and signed off by a licensed supervisor.
• After completing 40 hours of supervised workplace experience and once your supervisor is confident in your ability, you can book your final written and practical assessments with us.

High Risk Work Licences

Completing the EWP logbook course alone does not qualify you for a forklift licence. To become licensed, you must successfully complete the final assessment, and then apply for your High Risk Work Licence (HRWL) through WorkSafe QLD or WorkSafe WA. You have 60 days from course completion to submit your application. If you prefer, we can apply for the licence on your behalf for an additional fee of $100.
HRWLs are valid for five years and can be renewed online via the WorkSafe QLD or WorkSafe WA websites. If your licence expires, you are no longer recognised as a licensed operator until it is renewed. WorkSafe provides a 12-month grace period for renewal; if this period passes, you will need to resit both the written and practical assessments.

Entry Requirements

You must satisfy each of the following criteria to enrol in this course:

• You must be at least 16 years old*
• Wear steel-capped or safety boots to your session and PPE.
• Basic computer skills and internet access (for enrolment and communication).
• Sufficient language, literacy, and numeracy (LLN) skills to complete assessments.
• A valid Unique Student Identifier (USI) - mandatory for all nationally recognised training. If you don’t have one, you can apply at usi.gov.au or we can assist.

* While you can begin EWP logbook training before turning 18, you must be at least 18 years old to sit the final High Risk Work Licence assessment.
