Licence to Operate a Non-Slewing Mobile Crane (C1 up to 100 tonne capacity) - Course Information

Course Overview

The Licence to Operate a Slewing Mobile Crane (C1) course is designed for operators progressing into high-capacity crane operations. You’ll gain practical training in planning and executing complex lifts using slewing cranes with a capacity of up to 100 tonnes.

This course focuses on advanced crane setup, operational control, risk management, and compliance - skills essential for large-scale construction and industrial lifting environments. You’ll learn about:

  • Legislation & Compliance: High-capacity crane WHS requirements, licensing obligations, and workplace safety standards.
  • Advanced Crane Setup: Assessing ground conditions, configuring counterweights, deploying outriggers, and preparing the crane for high-load tasks.
  • Pre-Operational Safety Checks: Inspecting structural elements, hydraulic systems, boom configurations, and rigging equipment.
  • Load Chart Mastery: Interpreting advanced operating limits, dynamic loading, radius limitations, and boom configurations for heavy lifts.
  • Crane Operation: Executing safe crane movements - precise slewing, telescoping, hoisting, and placing heavy loads under controlled conditions.
  • Complex Lift Execution: Performing intricate lifts including high-radius lifts, blind lifts, and lifts with challenging environmental or structural constraints.
  • Post-Operational Shutdown: Completing thorough shutdown, inspections, and crane securing procedures.
  • Team Coordination: Working seamlessly with lifting teams, riggers, signalers, and supervisors during high-risk operations.
  • Emergency Procedures: Responding to critical incidents such as hydraulic failures, unforeseen load movement, or structural hazards.

By the end of the course, you'll be ready to operate slewing cranes up to 100 tonnes safely, efficiently, and in line with all industry and legislative requirements.

Delivery & Assessment

Due to the high-risk nature of crane operation, the Licence to Operate a Slewing Mobile Crane (C1) course is delivered face-to-face over five full days. You’ll gain hands-on experience in a controlled environment, building both confidence and competence while receiving direct guidance and personalised feedback from experienced trainers throughout the course.

High Risk Work Licences

After successfully completing this course, you can apply for your High Risk Work Licence (HRWL). HRWLs are valid for five years and can be applied for or renewed online via the WorkSafe QLD or WorkSafe WA websites. If your licence expires, you are no longer recognised as a licensed operator until it is renewed. WorkSafe provides a 12-month grace period for renewal; if this period passes, you will need to resit both the written and practical assessments.

You have 60 days from course completion to submit your application. If you prefer, we can apply for the licence on your behalf for an additional fee of $100.
