Advance Your Rigging Skills and Take on Complex Lifting Operations
The Licence to Perform Rigging (Advanced) course develops the advanced skills and knowledge required to safely perform complex rigging operations across construction and other industries where mechanical load-shifting equipment is used. You’ll gain practical experience in planning rigging work, selecting and inspecting equipment, setting up tasks, and safely erecting and dismantling specialised structures and plant.
The course covers advanced rigging operations involving gin poles and shear legs, flying foxes and cable ways, guyed derricks and structures, and suspended and fabricated hung scaffolds.
This nationally recognised unit is designed for experienced riggers who hold the Licence to Perform Rigging (Intermediate) and want to further develop their skills for more complex rigging work. On successful completion, you’ll have the skills and knowledge required to perform advanced rigging tasks safely and in accordance with workplace safety requirements and applicable regulations.

The Licence to Perform Rigging (Advanced) course builds on your intermediate rigging skills, providing advanced knowledge and practical experience to safely perform complex rigging operations. You’ll develop the skills required to plan and carry out specialised rigging work, use advanced rigging equipment, and coordinate complex lifting activities with crane operators and other site personnel. You’ll learn about:
Advanced Rigging Operations: Safely perform complex rigging tasks involving gin poles, shear legs, flying foxes, cable ways, guyed derricks, and suspended or fabricated hung scaffolds.
Rigging Equipment & Gear: Select, inspect, and safely use specialised rigging equipment, lifting devices, wire ropes, slings, and associated gear.
Legislation & Compliance: Apply WHS requirements, workplace procedures, and relevant standards to advanced rigging operations.
Hazard Identification: Identify hazards associated with complex rigging activities, equipment, structures, and lifting environments.
Risk Assessment & Planning: Plan advanced rigging operations and implement appropriate control measures to manage risks.
Load Handling & Rigging Techniques: Safely attach, move, position, and release loads using appropriate advanced rigging techniques.
Inspection & Maintenance: Inspect rigging equipment and components, identify defects, and ensure equipment is suitable for use.
Communication & Teamwork: Coordinate complex rigging operations with doggers, crane operators, and other site personnel using effective communication and signalling.
Emergency Procedures: Respond appropriately to incidents, equipment failures, unstable loads, and other emergencies during rigging operations.
By the end of the course, you’ll have the skills and knowledge to perform advanced rigging operations safely and effectively, manage complex lifting activities, and work in accordance with workplace safety requirements and regulations.
Course Delivery and Assessment
Due to the high-risk and complex nature of advanced rigging work, the Licence to Perform Rigging (Advanced) course is delivered face-to-face. You’ll gain hands-on experience performing specialised rigging operations in a controlled environment, with direct guidance and personalised feedback from experienced trainers throughout the course. This practical approach helps you build the skills, confidence, and competence required to safely undertake advanced rigging activities in the workplace.
High Risk Work Licences
After successfully completing this course, you can apply for your High Risk Work Licence (HRWL). You have 60 days from course completion to submit your application. HRWLs are valid for five years and can be applied for or renewed online via the WorkSafe QLD or WorkSafe WA websites. If your licence expires, you are no longer recognised as a licensed operator until it is renewed. WorkSafe provides a 12-month grace period for renewal; if this period passes, you will need to resit both the written and practical assessments.
If you are one of our corporate clients, we can apply for the licence on your behalf for an additional fee of $160 (which includes the WorkSafe fee).

Entry Requirements
You must satisfy each of the following criteria to enrol in this course:
Be at least 18 years old, as required for High Risk Work Licences.
Hold a current Licence to Perform Rigging (Intermediate) – CPCCLRG3002, which is a prerequisite for the Advanced Rigging unit.
Wear steel-capped or safety boots and appropriate PPE during training.
Have basic computer skills and internet access for enrolment and communication.
Have sufficient language, literacy, and numeracy (LLN) skills to complete the required training and assessments.
Have a valid Unique Student Identifier (USI), which is mandatory for all nationally recognised training. If you don't already have a USI, you can apply online at www.usi.gov.au, or we can assist you with the application.
